Tea Time

One of our favorite new routines is gathering for a daily (mostly) tea time in the afternoons.

Cherry Chocolate Chip Scones

Sometimes we prepare a special snack like scones or cookies, and other times I throw crackers on a plate and call it a day. SG and I have tea; LA always asks for water in a tea cup.

We use this time to read our family read aloud, The Hobbit. We also rotate between other enrichment subjects, picture study (Rembrandt), music study (Bach), and poetry (Robert Louis Stevenson).

Picture study is pretty laid-back and low stress. SG looks at a painting for a few minutes, then describes it from memory. We then use our guide and discuss the title of the painting and any other interesting information about it. Sometimes we compare it to other paintings from our artist. Sometimes SG draws her own version.

Tea time is basically a glorified snack time, but it sounds fancier and gets the kids excited. LA is also a lot more likely to sit quietly through a family reading when his mouth is full. I love the relaxed environment of tea time.
