Commonplace Book
We officially start school next week, and I'm trying to make sure I'm prepared. I'm aiming for having both accountability and flexibility in our schedule, so I'm trying to not plan too far out or in too much detail. I know I'll tweak our schedule and plans for weeks before I'm happy with our rhythm.
And a rhythm is what I'm aiming for - a schedule that flows naturally with our day. I want education to be a natural part of our life.
My new normal will consist of me taking time to pre-read all of our books, poems, songs, plays, etc. as well as book I choose for my own pleasure and curiosity. I've started a commonplace book where I can write down notes for the reading, questions to ask the kids, and any ideas I have for school. It's also a great excuse to draw.
I'm looking forward to all the great books my kids will be reading, all the science experiments they'll work on, all the math they'll be learning and applying to their lives.
But I think I'm more excited about having to take time to learn and grow myself. Together, starting next week, we'll be diving into history, geography, science, math, and literature. We'll be listening to composers and studying the works of artists and poets. We'll be painting, singing, and spending time in nature.
The kids can't wait and neither can I!
