Trying Not to Kill My Plants - Plus Nature Study
Plants aren't really my thing. I think they are beautiful to look at, but I keep the little people in my life alive and that is enough. I don't need to have another thing to remember to feed and water. Yet here I am with three new plants.
I blame nature study. A Charlotte Mason education includes weekly nature study for the kids and the mom, and I'm loving it. We've spent time outside each week just sitting or walking around and observing nature. The kids are already noticing more about God's creation, and so am I. So I got plants. For nature study. And because I have a sudden interest in things like plants, birds, and trees.
Still, I haven't been a very good plant mom. I keep forgetting to water the zinnias and they almost died. I think we've managed to somewhat revive them. Now I need to figure out if I should pull off the dead blooms or not. Let me know if you know.
These are kind of sad looking now. |
The kids and I did nature study with the portulaca last week. We actually brought it inside because it was hot and we were uncomfortable! Both kids got frustrated when they couldn't make it look just right. I had trouble getting the right color for the flowers myself.
Oh! I also bought a succulent for inside! After getting some fake greenery to go in my centerpiece on the table, I decided we needed more greenery inside. I went for something hard to kill.
We named him Herbert. |
Wish me luck keeping these things alive.
GAHH!!! You are the best. I took floriculture in highschool as well as greenhouse plants.... I still kill most of my plants!! I keep trying every season/year though!
